”አባጂፋር ለኢትዮጵያ እድገት የበኩላቸውን አስተዋፅኦ አድርገዋል። ከአዲስ አበባ ጂቡቲ የባቡር ሀዲድ ሲዘረጋ አባጂፋር ገንዘብና የሰው ኃይል ልከዋል። ለሀዲድ ዝርጋታ እና ድልድይ ሥራ በ1892፣ 1894 እና 1900 አባጂፋር የሰው ኃይል ወደ አዲስ አበባ ልከዋል። የባቡር ሀዲዱንና ከባባድ አስፈላጊ መሣሪያዎችን በዘዴና በቀላሉ የሚጎትቱ ሰዎችን ለአጼ ምኒልክ ልከዋል።
ከአባጂፋር ጦር በቀላል ዘዴ ከባባድ መሣሪያዎችን የማጓጓዝ ስልትን ለመማር ምኒልክ ጠይቀዋል። ‹‹… ይልቁንም መጎተቱን የኛንም አገር ሰዎች እንዲያስተምሩልኝ ብዬ ነው›› ሲሉ ለአባጂፋር ጽፈዋል። የባቡር መስመሩ ዝርጋታ ላይ በተፈጠረው የገንዘብ እጥረት የጅማ ሙስሊም ነጋዴዎች በአባጂፋር አማካኝነት ለማዕከላዊው መንግስት ገንዘብ አበድረዋል። ምኒልክም አባጂፋርን ብድሩን ሲጠይቁ ‹‹… ባገርህ ያለ ነጋዴ ሁሉ ሲሆን ሀያ እልፍ አለዚያ እልፍ ብር አያጣምና ከየነጋዴው ተበድረህ… እንድታመጣልኝ ይሁን። በችግር ጊዜ ያልሆንህልኝ ለመቼ ጊዜ ትሆነኛለህ?›› ፡፡
ኢትዮጵያን ከወራሪው የጣሊያን ጦር ለመመከት በ1896 አፄ ምኒልክ አድዋ ሲዘምቱ አባጂፋር 20ሺ ማርትሬዛ ገንዘብ እና አምስት መቶ የተመረጡ ወታደሮቻቸውን ልከዋል። ራሳቸውም ዘምተው ነበር። አጼ ምኒልክ አባጂፋር አገራቸውን እንዲጠብቁ ስለፈለጉ ወደ ጅማ ተመልሰዋል። ”
