I am only commenting the title, because i have yet to read the article.
That said, the conventional view is that during the Badme crisis the “Ethiopian” army was about to capture Asmara and Isayas was about to leave the Eritrean capital and to go to Nakfa when Meles gave the order to stop the advance.
And there was a discussion why Meles did that.
Elsewhere we learned that it was Bill Clinton that forced Meles to give the stop or retreat order. That sounds credible.
It is credible that it was USA that saved dictator Isayas and not Meles.
Regarding the Asseb region, the conventional view that USA, through its official Herman Cohen, told Meles to keep the Asseb region with Ethiopia but he rejected the idea is not credible because
1. such key issues are not decided in the last hour and
2. because TPLF is a USA puppet and the USA could have made TPLF to accept such suggestion.
It rather seems that USA had a policy of landlocking Ethiopia and TPLF had to accept that USA policy to be allowed to take power in Ethiopia after Derg.
