These ‘slums’ are the densest communities in the city and no condominium or other housing form can compare them. They provide not only residential function, but also commercial and manufacturing spaces. It is not only their lively hoods that has been taken away, but also the intricate social fabrics that existed for more than 60 years.
Policy makers, elites and woyane Trojan horses have a twisted understanding of development. They have this illusion that by bulldozing poor neghibhoods and erecting modern boxes the city would catch up with other cities in the west. I wish that is the case. However, democratic urban planning can’t evolve in a government setup that is undemocratic and corrupt. Since the whole chain of command all the way from the ministry of urban planning to the Kebeles is staffed with incompetent and greedy planners and cadres, replacing the urban poor with the economic elites is all what they understand. Ripped up clothes may not be allowed in down town area in the future. I should have said ripped stained, ripped, patched, and torn rags because ripped jeans have these days become style of the elites as well.
Countless cookie-cutter codominumn blocks have been built around the city to silence citizens the same way one would give a pacifier to silence babies.
They are ugly, monotonous, souless and look like soviet era apartment blocks. They tear apart old friends and neighbors and artificially squeeze together people who don’t know each other. It deprives home-owners and tenants of their way of life and force them into tiny spaces up in the air. As a matter of fact, these condominiums are not affordable even for college graduates let alone for the poor from american gibi. Also, they are so poorly designed and constructed that they are leaking and falling apart in front of our eyes.
The enterprenual energy and rebuilding effort of the city residents is spectacular. However, the modern city woyane claims it is building is a joke. Bastardaizing western civilization is not modernization. For instance, people import all kinds of building elements from Asia and the Middle East, but only few people know how to put them together correctly.

ቢሆንም ግን ኣስተዳደሩ ይህንን ሳያመቻች እንደማያፈርስ እምነት ኣለኝ።
ኣድሜ ይህንንና ይህንን መሰል እየለቃቀምሽ ወያኔን እጥላለሁ ብለሽ የምታስቢ ከሆነ፣ ገና እንደ ህጻን ልጅ በዳዴ ትድሂያለሽ እንጅ በዋዛ ሊወድቅልሽ እንዳይመስልሽ።
