Let me be the first to prove that person wrong: Zenawi is like a watered-down Robert Mugabe meets a watered-down Omar al-Bashir; a strongman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.voanews.com\/english\/news\/a-13-2009-01-06-voa45-68667047.html\"> who has impoverished his own people<\/a> in order to maintain his stranglehold on power, and who has exploited his country\u2019s strategic significance in order to gain the backing of the United States.
